Hobble Nation, we need your help for Peluche! Mary was in Mexico when she saw a social media post about a dog who was JUST hit by a car and then left to die. She realized she was only a few blocks away from the accident, so she drove over as fast as she could and found this sweet dog lying in the street in the rain. A kind bystander had covered him with a blanket. Mary scooped him up and took him to a local vet where he received minimal imaging and treatment. The only thing we know so far is that his spine may be broken, and he has a dislocated rear leg. He also has a deep open wound to his foreleg. He is incontinent of urine and stool, and he cannot walk or even drag himself around (he looks to weigh about 60 lbs). Mary took Peluche back to the United States when it was safe to travel. She is currently caring for him and keeping him comfortable the best way she can, yet she has NO resources, NO money except for her disability checks, and NO rescue backing. So, when she reached out to Hobble Nation, we knew we had to help. She is desperate for help and is willing to do whatever she can for Peluche. She told us his name means “teddy bear” in Spanish, and he sure is as cute as any teddy bear we have seen! Part of what we do at Hobble Nation is honor our fiduciary duty to our supporters by vetting all requests for help. In this spirit, we met and visited Mary and Peluche in their Santa Ana, CA home on 9/26 to verify and vet this request for help. Peluche is in bad shape, and Mary is an angel with a huge heart. She is cleaning Peluche's wound and changing the dressing twice daily, and she is giving him antibiotics, pain meds, and lots of love. She received a crib mattress via donation to use as a waterproof bed, and she regularly cleans up his incontinence episodes. We can tell that Peluche is such a sweet soul with a kind spirit and a lot of life left in his senior body. Even while we were there, he started slowly perking up, trying to get up on his elbows, lifting his head, and making eye contact as if he knew we were there to help! I think he knew we were making an Amazon wish list for him in real-time. All monetary donations will go towards vet bills, diagnostics, medicine, and rehab. All those who donate $50 or more will receive a HN donation t-shirt (see below). Here is what Hobble Nation has already done within 24 hours of meeting Peluche:
